Who should get veneers?
Veneers can be for anyone who is unhappy with their smile and wants to fix it. Most common problems fixed by veneers are external defects including discoloration, crooked and/or uneven teeth.
What are veneers made of?
There are different types of veneers to choose from, made by various materials. When you come to Village Dental, we will consult with you to pick the best veneers for you. Ceramic—Also known as porcelain veneers. This is usually our recommended type of veneer. They are made similar to porcelain tooth crowns with a high-quality ceramic to look the most natural, seamless and polished. Composite—These are strong plates made from a composite resin. These can usually create a similar appearance to ceramic veneers, sometimes at lower costs but aren’t as durable or long-lasting. They can require different tooth preparation, including the sharpening of the tooth to help with the composite. Lumineers—Lumineers are a specific brand of veneers that are made from ultra-thin ceramic. The procedure for Lumineers can require less preparation as they are so lightweight, but they can also appear transparent if not applied in the right circumstance.
Are there any prohibiting food with veneers?
While veneers are durable with long-lasting color, we do recommend being mindful of what you eat just as you would your real teeth. Try to cut your food into pieces and chew properly. If possible avoid dark liquids like wine, tea and coffee. The temporary veneers that are placed between visits are not as permanently cemented so they can be more sensitive to hard foods.
How are veneers set up?
The installation of veneers is slightly different depending on the type of veneer. When you consult with one of our qualified professionals, we will select the perfect veneers with you, considering your unique needs. In general, for ceramic veneers the installation just takes a few visits to the dentist: consultation, then preparation, where we prepare the teeth, create casts for the veneers and give you temporary veneers until the next visit where we cement on the final veneers.
